How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We met senior year of high school in Minnesota 11 years ago when mutual friends introduced us because we were both going to the same college – Indiana University. We were great friends throughout college, always living less than a block from each other. After college, Pete moved to Chicago and Delaney moved to NY. We visited each other often. A year later, Pete moved to NY on January 1, 2011 and the rest is history!
What were your highlights of the day? Were there any surprises?
The second line was a huge highlight. Our guests are still talking about it over a month later. It was a special experience that we will always remember. Everything was perfect – the food, the band, our wedding planner, flowers, and our amazing photographer Tasha and her crew! We spent most of the night on the dance floor. The only surprise was the 90 degree humidity! But we all were having too much fun to care. The venue was nice and cool when we got back from the second line, and people still wanted to spend time in the courtyard and hang out by the fountain.
What advice would you give to other couples planning their day?
What everyone says is true – it goes by SO fast! The best thing to do is to stay calm and have fun. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Christie and Amanda from Mise En Place Events saved us the day of and made our lives so much easier. Just try to enjoy every moment. We had a welcome party the night before, which was so helpful because we were able to say hello to everyone there and not worry about getting to everyone individually at the wedding. The night of the wedding, we left the cocktail hour early and took a few minutes to eat alone. If we had not done this, we would not have eaten. Highly recommend!
Ceremony Location | What made you decide to get married there?
New Orleans Board of Trade Courtyard. Peter and I wanted a low-key ceremony so we had partial seating and some standing for our short ceremony. The weather was great and we were able to keep the ceremony outside but even if it did rain, we were able to set up under the arcade outside. We loved the idea of saying I Do in a beautiful New Orleans courtyard with a sax player and walking straight out to the Second Line. Could not have asked for a better ambiance.
Reception Location | What made you decide to get married there?
New Orleans Board of Trade. We live in NYC, and went down one weekend to scout locations. Our first stop was BOT. We saw about 6 other places that day and had 5 on the list for the next day. We kept going back to BOT…so we went with our gut instinct! The bones of BOT are beautiful – so there is not much that needs to be done to make it even more special. We loved that we could use both outdoor and indoor space. It also has a lot of history and preserved features from the 1800s which adds a lot of character.
